The Gallatin National Honor Society chapter is partnering with the Backpack Buddies program. The program sends home food each weekend to needy children in the Gallatin school. The goal of NHS is to collect at least 100 jars of peanut butter so that each backpack buddy can receive a jar of peanut butter each semester.

Members chose peanut butter because it is a high source of potassium as well as protein. It can also lower the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure. Peanut butter was also a repeated request from the students receiving backpacks; however, it is hard to provide financially.
If you would like to help NHS with their cause, members of the Gallatin chapter will go door-to-door from 7-8 p.m. on Nov. 21 collecting unopened jars of peanut butter as well as other non-perishable food items. Please leave lights on outside your house as members come to collect your donations that night.
NHS members will also be taking donations at the middle school home basketball game against Albany on Nov. 22. Feel free to drop donations by at any time that night. If neither of those times work for you and you’d still like to help out, please contact NHS Adviser Becky Adkison at 660-663-2171.
