Two in custody on drug charges after traffic stop
On Oct. 7, Michael Sprague, 49, Albany, and Amanda Fredricks, 38, Pattonsburg, were arrested following a traffic stop on northbound I-35 by Daviess County Deputy Caleb Ireland. According to the probable cause statement, Deputy Ireland activated his emergency equipment at the 81.4 mile marker on the 1997 Nissan for lane violations. The vehicle slowed but continued to travel, failing to yield to the deputy until reaching the 83 mile marker. The occupants of the Nissan were observed to be rummaging around in the vehicle during this time.
Sprague, the driver, did not possess a valid Missouri license, and drug paraphernalia was discovered in the car. Both occupants were taken into custody. During a search of Sprague at Daviess-DeKalb County Regional Jail, three plastic bags of methamphetamine fell from Sprague’s underwear. After Fredricks was mirandized, she stated she knew methamphetamine was in the vehicle and on Sprague’s person. She said she didn’t want the meth in her pants so Sprague stuck it in his. Fredricks also advised that they had attempted to hide the methamphetamine, and that was the reason it took so long for them to stop.
Sprague has been charged with felonies of delivery of controlled substance, possession of controlled substance, possession of controlled substance at correctional facility, driving while revoked, and resisting arrest, and misdemeanors of drug paraphernalia (two counts), possession of marijuana, and failure to signal. Fredricks is charged with felony possession of controlled substance and misdemeanors of drug paraphernalia (two counts), and possession of marijuana.
