Independence woman in custody on drug charges

On Sept. 15, Kerrie Riley, 55, Independence, was arrested and transported to DDCRJ, charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Riley’s vehicle twice traveled over the centerline on Highway 6, near Route EE, as Cpl. S. Cool was observing. After a computer check revealed two active warrants, she was taken into custody. Riley had a pistol in the center console, as well as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Bond was denied.

  • Melanie Myers, 18, Gallatin, was arrested and transported to DDCRJ for a 24-hour hold for Daviess County, held on a DeKalb County warrant. Myers was taken into custody by the highway patrol when she had a flat tire on I-35. According to the probable cause statement, the officer detected the odor of marijuana and Myers admitted to previously smoking. Four capsules identified as Schedule IV drugs were also found. She has been charged with possession of controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Ephraim Gibson, 29, Olathe, KS, was arrested and transported to DDCRJ. He was charged with failure to appear on prior warrant of non-support, with bond set at $10,000.
  • Taylor Schmelzer, 21, Hermitage, was picked up from Hickory County for failure to appear on prior warrant of possession. Bond set at $2,000.
