What do you do when your starters get only nine snaps at the beginning of the game? Score, score and score some more.
The #2 state-ranked Pattonsburg Panthers blitzed visiting Braymer for 50 unanswered points in the first quarter alone on their way to a Missouri 8-Man Football record 94 points during Friday’s Grand River Conference clash. The unbeaten Panthers rolled to an 88-20 half time lead before trading one more score for two by the Bobcats in the final half.
According to the MSHSAA Football Record Book, the top team performances for most points scored in a game are: 138 points by Lincoln College Prep vs. Northeast (KC) in 1985, followed by 105 points by Springfield Central vs. Greenfield in 1927. Both scores are in 11-man play. Next in line is Friday night’s 94 points by the Panthers in their 94-38 victory. Pattonsburg’s 12 touchdowns are tied for sixth place, all classes.
Dakota Eaton started off scoring with a 59-yard punt return. Quarterback Steven Willhite threw to Patrick Cowley for the conversion. Willhite went on to throw four touchdown passes in the first period, to Brett Emig, Carter Crone, Cowley and Eaton. The Panthers tacked on four two-point conversions following those scoring plays.
Crone scored the final TD of the first period on a 10-yard fumble recovery. The Panther defense would also notch a safety to account for the 50-0 first quarter lead.
The Panthers scored six more TDs in the contest after Kaden deJong took over quarterback duties. He threw three TD passes, to Brody Langfitt, Sam Coin and Login Goll, ran for another TD and two point conversion and tossed a pair of successful conversion passes.
Patrick Cowley found the end zone twice for the Panthers on kickoff return runs of 56 and 53 yards. He also led the team in receiving with four catches for 75 yards.
The Panthers travel to North Andrew this Friday to take on the unbeaten Cardinals, who are ranked #4 in Missouri 8-Man Football.
