The City of Jamesport held its tax levy hearing on Aug. 12. The proposed tax rate ceiling was set at $ .8944 per $100 assessed valuation.
This breaks down to $.7231 to the general fund and $.1713 to the park fund.
Visitor Greg Register brought his concerns before the Jamesport Board regarding current procedure on nuisance violations. He suggested that someone from the council visit with the ‘offender’ to help in clarification of what the city finds satisfactory.
Aldermen Rob Murphy suggested the city set up a policy to visit properties in a joint effort to get properties into compliance.
Patricia Crook (RV property) advised she felt her property should be in compliance due to the efforts made to clean up the property and to secure the trailer.
Mayor Dana Urton advised Ms. Crook that a member from the city would contact her regarding the properties compliance issues.
Wayne Scott from the Jamesport Community Association asked the members if it would be possible to hold the car show in the park. He was advised he would need to contact a park board member.
Employee Trent Brewer discussed the report received from the Department of Natural Resources regarding waste water. He advised the council of the issues that had been brought to the city’s attention and he was working on these discrepancies and would be in contact with the DNR.
Mayor Dana Urton informed the council that she had appointed Dennis Gatewood to the Park Board on July 26.
There was discussion among the council regarding the practices currently being performed regarding notification of late water bills. It was suggested that no warnings of shut off be delivered to any customers in the future other than the notification that appears on their water bill.
The board entered into closed session.
