During the Annual Tax Rate Hearing the Winston School Board approved the operating tax rate at $4.2228 per $100 assessed value. This is a slight decrease from the total voter approved levy in 2016 of $4.2493 per $100 assessed value when the new school at Winston was approved.
In other business at their Aug. 19 meeting, the school board approved the 2019-2020 preliminary bus routes.
Extra Duty Positions were approved as follows: senior sponsors: Eden Beasley and Brittany Enyeart; junior sponsor: Katie Martin; sophomore sponsor: Linda Warford; freshman sponsor: Krissy Lee; eighth grade sponsor: Rebecca Nehlsen; seventh grade sponsor: Curtis May; concessions manager: Linda Littrell. Tiffany Cameron was hired as a paraprofessional in the preschool.
Following the meeting a Board Training Workshop was held conducted by Maggie Anderson from the Missouri Association of Rural Education.
The annual school audit is scheduled for August 29 with Jeremy Clevenger, CPA.
The Winston School District will be paying for juniors and seniors to take duel credit classes for this year. This year, juniors and seniors will have the ability to take two duel credit classes (one per semester) that will be paid for by the school if the student passes the class. At this time, Winston has 10 students taking 36 hours of duel credit classes first semester and 10 students taking 45 hours of duel credit second semester.
Winston has partnered with LAUNCH for online classes. At this time, students are enrolled in approximately 40 online advanced courses and credit recovery.
Preliminary 2019 numbers show a decrease in total enrollment from last year. After the first week, school enrollment is 160 students: 145 in K-12th grade and 15 in preschool. Last year the first day of school enrollment was 169 students: 156 in K-12 and 13 in preschool.
