Hit hard by graduation last spring, Gallatin’s softball outlook for 2019 will only get clearer as the season progresses, says Head Coach Courtney Ray.
“Obviously, we’re going to be a very youthful team,” she says after having to replace six starters from a year ago. “We have been working on getting fundamentally sound so that we’re ready to make the routine plays,” Coach Ray commented. “I am excited to see how this group improves as the season goes on and their experience increases.”
Questions remain right up to next Tuesday’s home opener against Milan as to who will fill positions on the diamond. Last Friday’s jamboree helped coaches move players around to different spots in a game-type setting.
“It’s probably going to be an ever-changing rotation throughout the year,” Coach Ray advised.
Captains for this year’s squad are senior Madalyn Shubert and juniors Caragan Baker and Carli Beck. Following are possible position alignments from a group of potential starters:
Seniors: Madalyn Shubert, second base, first base; Aubrey Burns, third base; and Macie McNeely, second base; Juniors: Caragan Baker, shortstop and pitcher; Carli Beck, outfield, first base; Maddi Michael, outfield, catcher; McKinley Waters, outfield; Alli Baker, outfield; Freshman: Ella Bradford, pitcher, first base; Addie Riley, catcher, outfield; and Presley Wells, outfield, shortstop and third base.
