“We will be sharing success stories from the past school year and sharing plans for the year ahead,” says Shonna Morrison, school counselor at Searcy Elementary in Gallatin. Mrs. Morrison and the Bright Futures Advisory Board have been instrumental in getting the Bright Futures Gallatin framework up and going.

Both students and adults help with Bright Futures projects:

*each month, 30 to 100 students receive a benefit of Bright Futures programs

*during a school year, up to 70 adults volunteer their time to a Bright Futures program

*well over 100 community members donate items requested (clothing, Bulldog attire, hygiene items, shoes, etc) each year

Currently, these are the programs Bright Futures has in place that will continue:

Bulldog Pride- Bulldog clothing recycled to distribute to new students.

CHAMP’S Closet:  free clothing closet in the elementary for students in grades Pre-K through 4.

Bulldog Challenge: Trenton and Gallatin Bright Futures “compete to collect” items in need at school for students during the December basketball game.

Black & Red Threads: a personal shopper service to meet clothing needs for M.S. & H.S. students.

Lunch Buddies:  elementary students are matched with a caring community volunteer to share lunch, laughs, and friendship.

Bundles of Love Christmas adoptions:  partnering with FBLA to provide Christmas gifts and food to local families.

Crazy 8s: math, mentoring, and fun during this M.S. after school program.

Back to School Bazaar: kicking off the school year by providing school supplies for students as well as parent education sessions.

Bright Futures is needing someone to build a sensory board for the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) classroom.

“We have had such amazing support and response from our community,” says Mrs. Morrison. “We couldn’t be happier with the partnerships Bright Futures has brought to our Gallatin students.”

Please RSVP for the Bright Futures breakfast by Sept. 1 by emailing [email protected] or by calling 663-2173.

Bright Futures is a community-based action group which works to fill the unmet needs of children in the Gallatin School District. Bright Futures Gallatin is already in place on Facebook. Community Action Partnership of North Central Missouri provided funding for Gallatin to begin the program.
