The approved tax rate of $4.4847 represents an increase of $0.0818 from last year’s tax rate of $4.4029. The increase was in the incidental fund (2018: $4.2304). The capital projects fund remained the same as 2018.

The tax rate of $4.4847 represents an increase of $0.1279 from the 2017 rate of $4.3568 — the levy ceiling after voters approved a 90-cent tax levy increase during the April 4, 2017, election, called Proposition 2.

“The overall assessed valuation decreased,” according to Superintendent Bryan Copple, “which in turn causes an increase in the tax rate.”

Also approved by the board were bus routes; the substitute list; school handbooks with changes; and the Special Education Compliance Plan Part B.

The summer maintenance report was heard.

The board entered closed session to discuss personnel.

The resignation of art teacher Tammy Kliewer was accepted. The high school art teacher position was offered to Ally Ockenfels.

The above are the unapproved minutes of the Aug. 15 meeting. Present were board members Jesse Bird, Pam Critten, Martin Sweatman, Tim Bradford, Jeffrey Donovan and Amy Heldenbrand. Trent Dowell was absent. Also present were Dr. Bryan Copple; Principals Burke, Collins, and Thogmartin; Activities Director Gann; and Board Secretary Corwin.
