Back-to-school means back to a routine — for families and for the library. This summer was jam-packed with fun programs for children and even for the adults. Children may continue reporting reading and taking away prizes through this Saturday, Aug. 17. Library staff will compile completion statistics and forward to the schools so the kids will reap their rewards there, as well.
This summer’s goal was to read 40 out of 84 days throughout the summer to reduce what educators call “Summer Slide,” and 137 county children took that challenge — how many will meet that challenge?
Library staff has kept on their toes all summer with a wide variety of programs so there will be a break for a couple of weeks, then fall programming kicks off in September and October. Look for the roll-out of several new programs for young and old, alike.
Monthly programs will include “Alz Not Forgotten” Community Memory Hour at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab, first Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 2;
“Happy Hump Day Movie & Book Club for Tweens,” every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 18; Pop-Up Libraries and Jameson/Coffey and Pattonsburg/Winston, second and fourth Wednesdays, respectively, beginning Sept. 11 and 25;
Family Search Genealogy, fourth Thursdays, ongoing, at 5:55 p.m.; Adult Computer Lab, third Fridays, ongoing, 1-3 p.m.; and Storytime/MusicTime at 10 a.m., first and third Fridays, respectively, beginning Sept. 6.
The community is invited and encouraged to participate in all programs.
Library cards are free to county residents or property holders five years and older and offer a wealth of electronic resources beyond the multitude of physical materials available at your libraries.
For more program information, check the calendar on the website, then “Quick Links/Library Events”, visit the library or call 660-663-3222.
