A Winston woman is suing Cameron Regional Medical Center, claiming she was fired because of her age.
Linda Young, 56, a former nurse, filed a lawsuit on July 31 alleging she was fired from Cameron Regional Medical Center because of her age. Young said she had worked at the hospital for 14 years when the director of nursing fired her on Nov. 8, 2018.
The suit further claims Ms. Young was told she was cut for budget purposes; however, Young alleges that no other nurses were released and that a younger nurse was promoted to a position that Young was qualified to take.
Young alleges that the hospital administrator told her: “There are some places that once you get to a certain age, they fire you for no reason at all.”
Young first worked as a staff nurse in the day surgery department before being promoted to day surgery supervisor after two years and finally being promoted to the pre-surgery coordinator and Medicare bundling committee after 11 years of employment.
The petition against CRMC alleges that Young suffered lost wages, retirement benefits, medical benefits, future lost wages and benefits, medical expenses, mental anguish, emotional distress, and pain and suffering. Young is asking that CRMC pay for these damages, including back pay, future pay, lost benefits, and all actual and compensatory damages to which she believes she is entitled.
