A free back-to-school supplies event for North Daviess students was set for Friday, July 26, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. R-3 students can enjoy some free school supplies donated from local clubs, groups, and individuals.

In other business of the North Daviess Board of Education meeting held July 15, a facilities update was given. Summer projects include improvements to the gym. Volunteer assistance is needed for a playground concrete pour sometime around Aug. 1-2.

The student start date for school is Aug. 15.

The board entered into executive session for personnel matters and took action to offer the secretary position to Ruth Lewis.

Bids were accepted for the following services: trash, Advanced Disposal; fuel, MFA; pest control, Mefford; milk, Anderson Erickson.

Participation in the federal lunch program was approved.  North Daviess is a CEP district, meaning all students receive free lunches.

The board readopted the conflict of interest ordinance, approved the employee and student handbooks as presented, approved tuition rates to remain the same, and adopted MCE policies 2871, 4870, and 5550.

During administrative reports it was noted that FFA camp was July 1-5 where eight students received their leadership medals. FFA students helped set up and work the Daviess County Livestock Show July 11-13. FFA members also volunteered to paint benches, bleachers, and tables at the Jameson Park in preparation for the Jameson Picnic.

Discussion was held about setting up a meeting between local entities on the topic of emergency preparedness.

The tax rate hearing was set for Monday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.
