The Winston School Board adopted the USDA Eligibility for Free and Reduced Meals for 2019-2020 at the meeting held July 15.

Meal prices will stay the same as last school year with breakfast $1.20, elementary lunch $2.25, high school lunch $2.50, adult lunch $3.25, and extra milk $.25. The Winston School District received an exemption from being forced to raise prices under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act which would have required lunch prices to increase 4.31%.

The board set the tax rate hearing for the 2019-2020 School Year for 6 p.m. on Aug. 19.

The board adopted the Missouri Department of Education IDEA Compliance Plan for the 2019-2020 school year and readopted the Conflict of Interest Ordinance from the Missouri Ethics Commission.

School Board Policy updates were approved as recommended by the Missouri Consultants for Education. High School and Elementary Student Handbooks were approved.

The next regular board meeting is 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19.

Future Dates of Importance: Aug. 6 – All Grades Student Registration 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Aug. 12-14 Staff In-service; Aug. 13 – Open House 5:30-7 p.m.; Aug. 13 – 7th Grade Orientation at 6 p.m.; Aug. 15 – First Day of School; Aug. 19 – School Board Meeting.

Several teachers and administrators have been participating in multiple days of professional development this summer.

The annual school audit is scheduled for Aug. 29 with Jeremy Clevenger, CPA.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) gave the Winston School their 2019 annual determination under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). The Winston R-6 School District has been placed in the category “Meets Requirements of Part B of the IDEA.” This is considered a good reflection on the dedication of the school personnel who support students with disabilities.
