The commission spoke with Andy Macias, Snyder & Associates, regarding the bid process for BRO 031(34). Discussion was held about whether to re-bid or not. David Cox made a motion to proceed in the process to let the contract for this bridge; Wayne Uthe seconded, and the motion passed.
Charles Strong, Jefferson Township, spoke by phone to the commission regarding a bridge on 122nd street that someone has cut the railings off. The commission will ask the road and bridge crew to attach new railings.
Robert and Patricia Lankford, Sheridan Township residents, met with the commission to discuss their trailer, the road in front of their house, and some culverts in their area. The commission advised them that the trailer has to be kept off the road right-of-way.
Craig Woolridge, Sheridan Township resident, met with the commission to discuss their decision to not close a portion of 175th Street. Mr. Woolridge questioned what statute covered the abandonment of a road. The commission discussed their reasons for the decision they made. Mr. Woolridge asked for information on how/if an appeal of the decision could be made. The commission furnished Mr. Woolridge with copies of some of the statutes.
James Lewis, bridge supervisor, spoke with the commission by phone to update them on ongoing work. His crew will continue to work on repairing damage from the recent rains. They will be working in Jefferson Township this week, as well as documenting damage in other areas. The crew also sprayed thistles on county property this week.
The commission conducted a closed session for discussion of a legal issue from 8:15 to 8:50 a.m. No decisions were made.
The commission discussed their investigation of the roof at the health office. It is their determination that the leak was caused by the wind-driven rain event and probably will be fine at this time. If it leaks again the commission will revisit.
The commission discussed the concrete bid and lease for the nursing home. Two bids were received for the concrete work: Lonnie Shrock, $1,850, and Pankau Construction, $1,350.00. The commission accepted the bid from Pankau Construction last week. Jim Ruse will contact the winning bidder to proceed with the concrete repairs. The commission advised the county clerk to contact Jennifer Osby and make arrangements to come in and sign the new lease.
Assessor Sally Black met with the commission to update them on the 2019 assessed valuations as of June 30.
Ronetta Burton, county clerk, advised the commission on BOE appointments scheduled so far for July 15. All other appeal forms must be received by the end of business on July 8.
The commission discussed an invitation they received from the White House to attend the fourth of ten regional State Leadership Day events with local elected officials from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma on July 25. No one from Daviess County will be able to attend.
The commission discussed an invitation to the Midwest Public Risk Fall Conference on Sept 4-6 in Branson. Daviess County has received two fully paid scholarships to attend. The issue was continued until next week.
The commission discussed an invitation to the Three County Highway 6 Tourism Coalition organizational meeting which is July 16 at 2 p.m. at the GHRPC office in Trenton. The commissioners will attend.
Ronetta Burton advised the commission that some brush letters were mailed to landowners last week and more will be mailed this week. Anyone that knows of a brush issue in the county is encouraged to let the commission know.
Eleanor Best, Salem Township resident, left word for the commission that she was experiencing a problem with thistles from a neighboring property. The commission will look into the situation. The issue was continued until next week.
Robert Mazur, deputy sheriff, advised the commission of an incident on July 2 with a prisoner that was in the courthouse for a hearing. The incident is under investigation by the Daviess DeKalb Regional Jail.
The AC unit in the 2nd floor Sheriff office is not working. The commission will see that it gets replaced this week.
Ronetta Burton advised the commission that a representative from Empower Retirement would be at the courthouse on July 17 to speak to all employees and elected officials about their current retirement benefits.
Jim Ruse advised the commission that the Daviess DeKalb Regional Jail has authorized a feasibility study for the renovation and/or reconstruction of the jail.
David Cox advised the commission that several of the townships have asked for the details of an app for their phone that would allow them to access GPS coordinates. Ronetta Burton will contact Preston Brooke with SEMA and ask about the app he uses.
Ronetta Burton advised the commission that a new web link is available to see how many medical marijuana license applications have been made to the state.
In the afternoon the commissioners attended a 911 Regional Information meeting in Trenton.
