An eight-year-old child received moderate injuries after being run over by a pickup in an accident that happened at about 5:45 p.m. on June 30 in Daviess County.
The pickup was on private property off Route CC, five miles north of Hamilton.
According to the highway patrol, Alex Rich, 8, Hamilton, was sitting on the tailgate of a 2001 Ford F150 pickup while the owner of the vehicle was under the hood trying to get the vehicle to start, with the pickup left in gear.
When the pickup started, it caused the vehicle to roll, ejecting Alex and subsequently running over him with the right rear tires.
Alex was taken by Life Flight Eagle to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City.
The accident was investigated by Trp. J.P. Lynch, assisted by Sgt. J.H. Thompson and Tpr. B.R. Muck.
