Discussion was held regarding the roof leak and cupola areas leaking in the courthouse. Jim Ruse contacted a contractor to assess the damage. The commission will investigate the issues more and possibly add to the scope of work. A revised estimate was received. Wayne Uthe made a motion to repair all four cupolas over the entryways of the courthouse; David Cox seconded, and the motion passed.

An estimate for the repair of the health department roof is still pending. The issue was continued until next week.

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission to update them on ongoing work. His crew will continue to work on repairing damage from the recent rains. They will be working in Jackson and Harrison Townships this week and doing spot work in other areas.

Charles Radabaugh, J.L. McFee, Chip Winger and David Allen, Sheridan Township, met with the commission to discuss road issues in their township. Sheridan Township’s recommendation is to leave the mile of 175th Street in question as abandoned, and to not close it. Sheridan Township’s recommendation on the section in question of 215th Street is to open it as soon as possible. They also raised questions about brush issues, vehicles parked on right-of-ways, and signage issues in Sheridan Township.

Jim Baker, Sheridan Township resident, also met with the commission regarding brush issues and vehicles parked on the right-of-way.

A petition for vacation of the first half mile of 175th Street North of Vista Avenue in Sheridan Township was read for the third time.  A remonstrance to a petition for vacation of the first half mile of 175th Street North of Vista Avenue in Sheridan Township was also read for the third time. The commission discussed the pros and cons of closing this piece of 175th Street. Wayne Uthe will gather some additional information. The issue was continued until next week.

Elizabeth Plotner, library director, met with the commission to advise them the library has a position up for appointment July 1. The commission will advertise the opening and appoint at the end of June.

Ronetta Burton, county clerk, advised the commission that there has been some technical issues with the Cyber Security training, but the insurance company is working to resolve the issue.  An email from the commission was sent to all elected officials to stress the importance of completing this training as soon as possible.

Discussion was held regarding a bid received for concrete repair at the nursing home.  Jim Ruse will do some additional checking.  The issue was continued until next week.

Todd Miller, custodian, left word for the commission that the hedge trimmer has quit working.  Commission will look into getting a new one.

A Liberty Township resident left word for the commission regarding a brush issue on Reel Avenue just east of Altamont. The commission will check to see if this is a county right-of-way.

Sheriff Ben Becerra met with the commission to discuss issues with patrol cars. Two cars are down right now, including one deputy with minor injuries. The commission discussed an issue with an illegally parked vehicle with the sheriff.

Wayne Uthe made a motion to accept the Use of County Vehicles Policy; David Cox seconded and the motion passed. All persons needing to use the county vehicles will need to read and sign the new policy.

David Cox made a motion to renew the county property damage and liability insurance with Midwest Public Risk pending a discount that is promised; Wayne Uthe seconded, and the motion passed.

The commission reviewed the Country Club lease.  The county clerk will send invoices for open balances.

Jim Ruse spoke with Matt Sorensen, Midland GIS, regarding the county boundary file. The commission was informed the file had been sent to the Department of Revenue pursuant to a request from DOR.

The commission met with Bill Haggard, brush mower, to discuss progress on county bridge and culvert mowing.  Additional tools and equipment needs were also discussed.

The commissioners looked at roads, bridges, and culverts in Benton, Colfax, Union, and Marion Townships.

Boyd, Gallatin, petition for change of name;

Michael Byrd II filed a motion against the State of Missouri to vacate, set aside or correct sentence, in connection with his recent sentencing for sexual conduct with a prisoner by a jail employee. Byrd faces an identical charge in Caldwell County which is set for a hearing on July 16.

Associate Division

Defendants found guilty in the Associate Division of the Circuit Court of Daviess County are listed below with the offense and fine assessed. Additionally, court costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $70.50 for moving traffic violations and $116.50 in most criminal cases. Judge Daren L. Adkins presided over the following cases:

David V. Searcy, Pattonsburg, stealing, one day jail; possession of marijuana, two days jail; possession of drug paraphernalia, two days jail.

Tony L. Carey, Kansas City, failure to comply with ignition interlock, two days jail; no valid license, $300.

Benjamin B. Henley, Cameron, careless and imprudent driving involving an accident, suspended imposition of sentence, two years probation, 90 hours of community service.

James C. Gallus, Odessa, non-support – probation violation, probation extended one year.

Durayl T. Vann, Kansas City, KS, speeding, two days jail; failed to drive within right lane, five days jail; no valid license, seven days jail.

Marriage

Melvin Lee Neibling, 64, Gallatin, and Jo Mason Goetz, 61, Gallatin, were married June 6 by Judge Daren Adkins.

Assessor’s Office

Some property owners will receive a valuation increase notice from the assessor’s office in the next few days. If you receive an impact notice and have questions, please call or stop by the office.

Staff members will be in the field finishing review in Sheridan, Colfax and Liberty Townships.
