It just never slows down at 306 West Grand. April saw the installation of four new heating and cooling units by Foster Heating and Air Conditioning of Chillicothe, provided by funds from the Janet Selby Memorial endowment. Janet was a long-time Gallatin resident and library patron and supporter and honored the library with a substantial endowment upon her passing in late 2017.
Additional upgrades to the recently remodeled basement community room space were provided by funds from generous donors and allowed the library to install a tile backsplash to the kitchenette.
The library was awarded a $3,609 grant from the Library Services and Technology Act to aid in the extended program incorporating S.T.E.A.M. materials into regular B-I-N-G-O and Rocket Boosters storytime on Tuesdays, Cosmic Cooking and Rocket Club on Thursdays, and, new this year, SRP2Go – think bookmobile with summer reading programs — in Jameson, Pattonsburg and Winston on Wednesdays and Jamesport on Fridays.
The first week of Summer Reading kicked off with a record high of 79 registrations and SRP2Go attendance of 21. Children are encouraged to read 15 minutes per day for 40 days in order to complete the program. Those who double that number will be invited to join the library staff on a celebration float in the Chautauqua parade in September.
This week the library enjoyed summer school students for B-I-N-G-O.
