Last Friday and Saturday were very good days for Gallatin, Pattonsburg and Winston athletes, based upon the fact that all 13 who competed in the MSHSAA Class 1 Track and Field Championships came home with at least one medal.

Leading the podium review for local athletes was Panther sophomore Cameron Jones, who earned medals in four individual events, the triple jump (1st/43’8.75”), long jump (3rd/21’6.5”), 100 (4th/11.55) and 200 (4th/23.14) meter sprints. Jones also won the triple jump event a year ago.

Panther teammate Trevor Ireland placed third in the 110 meter high hurdles (15.74) and eighth in the 300 meter hurdles (45.42) to combine with Jones for a second place tie in Class 1 boys’ team standings with Mound City. Rich Hill won the boys’ competition with 47 points.

Claire Hemry’s lone representation for Gallatin’s girls equaled 12 points and a 20th place team finish. Hemry broke her own record in the 3200 meter run, setting a mark of 12:01.93, finishing in third place. She also placed third in the 1600 meter run for the second straight season, running  5:25.78 this time around.

Gallatin’s Graydee Rains brought home a fourth place medal in the shot put with a toss of 45’10”. He placed 10th overall in the discus with a throw of 129’7”.

The Bulldogs 4×800 meter relay team of Aidan Adkison, Tristen Gibson, Taylor Teel and Ayden Wayne finished in sixth place in 8:43.22, right behind the quartet from Winston: Login Goll, Jacob Uthe, Cy Uthe and Jason Lewis. The Redbird relay team set a new WHS boys’ record for the third time this season (8:36.89).

Adkison just missed the medal stand in the triple jump, finishing 10th with a personal best jump of 40’3”. Cy Uthe ran a personal best 400 meter race (53.46) in Friday’s preliminary but did not qualify for the final.

Accepting the 2nd place Class 1 team finish for Pattonsburg were Cameron Jones and coaches Dan Dreesen and Heather Jones. Not pictured is Jones’s teammate Trevor Ireland.

Pattonsburg’s Sofia Nunn won the gold medal Saturday morning in the para-shot put event.

Gallatin’s 4×800 meter relay team of Aidan Adkison, Tristen Gibson, Taylor Teel and Ayden Wayne placed 6th at state.

Claire Hemry was a 3rd place state finisher in both the 1600 and 3200 run.

Lady Panther Sofia Nunn captured first place in the para shot put event at state.

Trevor Ireland placed 3rd in the 110 meter hurdles and 8th in the 300 meter hurdles.

Winston’s 4×800 relay team of Jacob Lewis, Jacob Uthe, Cy Uthe and Login Goll set a new WHS record by finishing 5th at state.

Graydee Rains brought home a 4th place medal in the shot put.

Cameron Jones added four medals to last season’s state medal count by winning the triple jump, placing 3rd in the long jump and finishing 4th in the 100 meter dash and 4th in the 200 meter dash.
