Basketball coaching and flags positions were offered for the 2019-2020 school year during the May 14 meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education: varsity boys basketball assistant to Penny Gardner; varsity girls basketball assistant to Terri Feiden; MS head boys basketball coach to Samantha Parman; and flags to Skyler Husong.
The special education position was offered to Mary Jarboe as critical shortage for the 2019-2020 school year.
The resignation of Kim Johnson as National Honor Society advisor was accepted by a vote of 6-0 (Sweatman abstained).
An extra duty contract was given to Michelle Anthuis as technology liaison for the school’s vendor and the school staff for an amount of $2,000.
A letter of resignation from Joe Clark for May 15, 2019, was accepted.
An additional 10 days was added to Monica Riley’s intent to hire.
The 2019-2020 salary schedule was approved.
The current year budget and the preliminary budget information for 2019-2020 were presented.
The school entered into a one year contract to co-op with Jamesport School for the 2019-20 high school baseball and junior high football season.
Public comment by Tyna Morrison was made expressing appreciation to the building leadership team.
Cindy Boles made a public comment regarding changing the payout rates of personal/sick time at termination/retirement.
Deanna Swalley presented a Sick Leave Pool Committee report. The committee requested a change in policy, that if an individual uses less than 10 days, that individual not have to start over in the contribution of days. The issue was tabled.
The superintendent, principals and activity director presented reports.
Mr. Gann presented his ISS/At Risk Report.
Special Education Process Coordinator Cook presented the Special Education report.
The graduation list was approved.
Dr. Copple discussed the plans presented from Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Four plans are being offered. One plan is the existing plan; one plan has a $1,000 deductible; and one plan has a $4,000 deductible and also a Health Savings Account (HSA). The base plan in the amount of $553.46 will be what the board will pay for the benefit. The other two will be with a buy-up from employees. The HSA will have the difference paid to the employees into their account.
Insurance rates from Mike Roberts of Creative Planning were approved for July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020.
The board entered into closed session for discussion of personnel and student matters.

The next school board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18.
Board members present were Jesse Bird, Tim Bradford, Pam Critten, Jeffrey Donovan, Trent Dowell, Amy Heldenbrand and Martin Sweatman.
Dr. Copple, Principal Burke, Principal Collins, Principal Thogmartin, Activity Director Gann and Board Secretary Corwin were in attendance.
