Gallatin’s 4×800 relay team is back at state for the second straight year: Tristen Gibson, Aidan Adkison, Ayden Wayne and Taylor Teel.

Winston’s 4×800 relay team has found late-season success it hopes to continue at state: Jacob Lewis, Cy Uthe, Login Goll and Jacob Uthe.
Daviess County will once again be well-represented at the MSHSAA Class 1 Track and Field Championships this coming weekend in Jefferson City. Individuals and teams from Gallatin, Pattonsburg and Winston will compete in 13 events, beginning Friday morning at Jefferson City High School.
Gallatin’s Claire Hemry, with a new school record in her pocket, will vie for medals in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Hemry captured a sectional title in the 1600 on Saturday at Lathrop High School and finished second at 3200 meters in a new GHS record time of 12:08.16, breaking the previous record of 12:10.51 set by Kailey Salmon in 2013.
In winning the 1600 meter run, Hemry turned in the best time, 5:28.63, of any of the state’s four sectional meets held Saturday.
Aidan Adkison will try for a medal in a field event this year after running with the 4×800 relay team a season ago. Adkison placed fourth at Lathrop’s Class 1 sectional in the triple jump with a leap of 39’5.75”. He will join Tristen Gibson, Taylor Teel and Ayden Wayne at state in the running of the 4×800. The GHS quartet placed third on Saturday in 8:53.09.
Graydee Rains will compete in a pair of field events for Gallatin, the discus and shot put. Rains placed third in the shot put at sectional with a throw of 46’4” and finished second in the discus with a toss of 133’4”.
Pair of Busy Panthers
Pattonsburg’s Cameron Jones returns to the Class 1 meet to defend his triple jump crown and will be busy with three other events, the long jump, 100 and 200 meter sprints.
Jones grabbed the sectional titles in both the long jump and triple jump events. He leaped 20’2.75” to take the long jump event and turned in a 43’0.5” triple jump that was just 1.5” under his Class 1 winning leap of a year ago.
Jones also came away with the Class 1 200 meter sectional title, running 23.48 to edge out Stanberry’s Kameron Wallace (23.49) at the tape. Jones placed third in the 100 meter dash in 11.84.
Panther teammate Trevor Ireland will be in the hunt for medals in the hurdles events. He finished third at sectional in the 110 hurdles in 16.06 and took second in the 300 meter hurdles in 42.19.
Redbird hopes in 2 events
The Winston boys will compete in a pair of events, both involving Cy Uthe, who was a fourth place finisher in the sectional 400 meter dash in 54.82. He will compete in Class 1 in that event and join Login Goll, Jacob Uthe and Jacob Lewis in the 4×800 relay, which took fourth at sectional in 8:53.10.
