Ron McNeely spotted these two raccoons electrocuted together on a wire in the Grand River bottoms east of Gallatin and had Trudi Burton take a picture for him on March 18. Mr. McNeely noted that the raccoons have bitten into one another’s legs as a reaction when electrocuted, clamped on, and fell on either side of the line.

“I’ve never seen anything so unusual in all my time working in conservation,” Mr. McNeely said. He was Wildlife Damage Control Agent for 28 years, retiring in 2002.

“It is mating season for raccoons and apparently they were up on the pole together on a date,” he says.
