Don Masters Sr., age 91, of Gallatin, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 25, 2019 at his home.

Don was born on June 30, 1927 the son of Fay and Hazel (Cadwaller) Masters in St. Joseph.

On April 7, 1945 he was united in marriage to Betty McCoy in Atchison, KS, and they settled in Halls, where they farmed and he worked at Western Auto. Later he owned and operated a Sinclair service station. In 1959 they moved to Altamont,  where they farmed and had a Grade A Dairy Barn.

In 1974 they purchased the laundromat under Tate Motor Company. They moved to Gallatin in 1977 and bought a second laundromat, along with a carwash and they developed a trailer court. He retired in 1988.

Don rarely met a stranger and enjoyed talking to people. He like to tell stories, torment and joke around with the ones he loved. Don enjoyed reading westerns written by Louis L’Amour. He also liked traveling and spending time on the computer. Don will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Masters was preceded in death by his parents, Fay and Hazel; stepfather, Ben Haverkamp; brother, Durlin Masters; great-grandchild, David Cylas Masters; son-in-law, Conrad Carder; step-grandson, Randy Carder; daughter-in-law, Effie Masters; daughter-in-law, Fredda Masters.  Those left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life include: wife of 73 years, Betty of the home; daughter, Phyllis Lollar-Carder of Gallatin; son, Don Masters Jr. of Gallatin; son, David and wife Dixie Masters of Cameron; 19 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 30 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Active Aging Resource Center in Gallatin in care of the funeral home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019 at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service also at the funeral home.
