The final rally during Monday night’s Class 2, District 16 opener for Gallatin belonged to the Lady Bulldogs.

Gallatin’s girls jumped out to a sizable lead in the first quarter but saw it evaporate in the second quarter. Maysville’s girls led by as many as 4 points in the third period but Gallatin stormed back to claim a 3-point victory, 42-39.
Maysville scored the game’s opening salvo but Gallatin ripped off 16 unanswered points to lead, 16-2, at the end of the opening period. Kelsey Maxwell, Caragan Baker, Karley Salmon and Claire Hemry combined to lead early scoring for the Lady Bulldogs. Addison Burns hit a shot early in the second quarter to up the GHS lead to 16 but the Lady Wolverines closed the gap to 22-19 by the end of the half.
A 7-2 run gave the Lady Wolverines a 28-24 cushion with under 2 minutes left in the third quarter. A pair of Maxwell free throws put the Lady Bulldogs back in front early in the fourth. Baker’s 2 free throws at the 2:32 mark gave Gallatin a 38-32 lead. Maysville scored the game’s final 5 points but a last bucket at the buzzer wasn’t enough.
Maxwell scored 12 points and pulled down 7 rebound for the Lady Bulldogs. Salmon, who is 3 points away from topping 1,000 for her career, finished with 11 points and 5 boards. Baker rang up 8 points and 6 rebounds. Burns finished with 7 points and 8 boards.
Weather permitting, Gallatin, 15-8, will face top-seeded Tarkio, 23-2, tonight (Wednesday) at 6 p.m. at Mid-Buchanan High School. The winner will face either Mid-Buchanan or Hamilton in Friday’s 6 p.m. championship.
