The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Southwest Livingston High School recently had the opportunity to become educated about the loan process, as well as other general banking information, by two officers of BTC Bank. Cohlby Jones, vice president and loan officer at the Carrollton Branch, and Jeff Donovan of Gallatin, BTC Financial Management, made a presentation to the business class on Jan. 31.

The two BTC officers met with 13 juniors, two seniors and their advisors, Mrs. Marilyn Stinebaugh and Ms. Kayce Terhune, on Jan. 31. Ms. Terhune of Gallatin is the business teacher and FBLA advisor at SW Livingston School.

The class learned about the loan process through BTC Bank and where the funds come from. Mr. Jones explained what they look for in an applicant when they are processing a loan. Mr. Donovan specified the different types of accounts available at BTC Bank and explained the importance of budgeting.

Mr. Donovan and Mr. Jones also clarified the fact that when you first open an account, your credit score has a value of zero and that you can do things to raise and lower your credit score. They discussed the need to be disciplined when it comes to opening and using various credit accounts. These credit accounts can be an excellent way to raise credit scores, but only if they are used in the ways they are intended. The FBLA Chapter is looking forward to working with these officers on future projects. ~ Matney Waters & Julian Hughes.
