Sarah Elizabeth Hagler 1924-2019

She was born on October 3, 1924 the daughter of Lemuel George and Susie Basha (Clark) Vance, one of five daughters: Georgia, Wilda, Eugh Vaughn, and Lavene, all deceased.

Elizabeth attended 8 year schools at Bodam with 5 different teachers. She then attended New Hampton High School, graduating in 1942. That year she met Clarence Hagler and they fell in love. In February of 1943, Clarence was inducted into World War II. Elizabeth waited for his return home in December, 1945 and they were married December 24, 1945 in Bethany, MO. The following year, he started farming and continued until his death, February 5, 2003.

They were blessed with four children: Rebecca Sue, Rolanda Lou, Rex Lynn and Roxanne. Elizabeth was a stay at home mother, helping Clarence on the farm and caring for their children whom she loved dearly. She always had a garden and did lots of canning. She joined Matkins Methodist Church at a young age and was baptized in her father’s pond by Revernd H.G. Bloomfied. She was a member of Ladies VFW Auxiliary and Mitchelville Church Ladies Society.

She leaves in her passing her four children, Rebecca Sue (Rob) Casady, Rolanda Lou (Ron) Ramey, Rex Lynn (Jan) Hagler, Roxanne (Mike) Nible; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; 2 step-great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Max Hefley.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Coffey Cemetery, Coffey, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday.
