While senior Kelsey Maxwell continues to rehab an injured knee, the rest of the Lady Bulldogs continue to step up in different ways to keep the team on the winning track.
The Lady Bulldogs evened their Grand River Conference East Division record at 3-3 Thursday night by defeating South Harrison in scrappy fashion, 42-33. It took a team effort to put Gallatin’s young team over the top.
Senior Karley Salmon led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points, and is averaging nearly 19 points per game since Maxwell’s practice injury six games ago. Sophomore guard Caragan Baker added 8 points for Gallatin in Thursday’s contest, but showed her versatility on the floor by grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds and registering a team-high 5 steals.
Junior Madalyn Shubert scored 6 points and was a co-leader in assists with 3. Senior Addison Burns’ 5 points came with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Sophomores Claire Hemry (4 pts.), Carli Beck (2 pts., 4 rebounds, 3 steals), Libby Endicott (4 rebounds) and Maddison Michael (2 pts.) sometimes find themselves on the floor at the same time, as was the case Thursday night.
Salmon sparked Gallatin to a 22-14 halftime lead with 3 treys and a pair of free throws in the second quarter. Baker and Beck each notched field goals late in the third quarter to cut short a SHHS rally. Buckets on back to back possessions midway through the final period by Burns and Shubert led to a double digit lead for the Lady Bulldogs. South Harrison cut the gap to 6 points inside the final minute but Baker tacked a free throw onto the GHS lead and Hemry closed the game with 2 more foul shots.
