Playing in Lawson’s Middle School gym isn’t where Gallatin’s varsity Lady Bulldogs wanted to be Monday night. Maybe it was the weather-related, 5-day layoff. Maybe it was just bad karma.

Richmond’s Lady Spartans rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Gallatin, 40-36, to take the consolation crown Monday in the Lawson Invitational Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs squandered a 10-point lead in the final 7 minutes of play and sent the Lady Spartans to the foul line late, where they made 8 of 9 attempts in the last 3 minutes.

Richmond grabbed the lead with 21 seconds left on an old-fashioned 3-point play, field goal and free throw. Gallatin failed to score in the final 2 minutes of the game.

Karley Salmon led Gallatin with 22 points.

The Lady Bulldogs “outdefended” the Lady Trojans from Carrollton on Wednesday to earn a 36-31 win and spot in the consolation title game.  Carrollton led by as many as four points in the early going. Two free throws by Addison Burns gave the Lady Bulldogs a 15-13 lead early in the second quarter and the Lady Trojans struggled in the third period to stay within a single possession.

Gallatin spread the lead to 33-26 with under a minute to play on a pair of Salmon free throws but the Lady Trojans rallied for five straight points to close the gap. Salmon added two more free throws with six seconds left to put the game out of reach.

The Lady Bulldogs held their opponents to 26% shooting from the field. The Lady Trojans fared little better at the foul line, making only four of 12 attempts.

Salmon finished with a game-high 21 points for Gallatin and pulled down eight rebounds. Burns added seven points and nine boards for the Lady Bulldogs.
