Norman Rice, 52, Plano, TX, has been charged with assault second degree, D felony, after repeatedly ramming the back of another vehicle on I-35.
Daviess County Central 911 received an emergency call at 6:51 p.m. Dec. 10 from a driver who reported that a black pickup was following her extremely close, with no headlights. At the southbound 69 mile marker, the pickup began ramming her vehicle in the rear multiple times at speeds up to 75 miles per hour. The unidentified driver stated that at this point she feared for her life.
Daviess County Deputy Caleb Ireland located and observed the pickup following less than one foot from the rear of the victim’s vehicle. Deputy Ireland conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Norman Rice, told Deputy Ireland he was planning a game called “The Stone.” When Rice later found out that he was the only one playing the game, he stated, “Well I guess that wasn’t very safe.”
Rice has also been charged with misdemeanors of harassment second degree, careless and imprudent driving, and following too closely, and infractions of speeding and failure to have two lighted headlamps. Bond was set at $35,000 cash only.
