A Tuesday night trip to North Andrew of Rosendale produced a split for Gallatin against the GRC West Division Cardinals. The Lady Bulldogs ran their season record to 4-1 with a 47-42 victory while the Bulldog boys dropped to 2-2 with a 70-36 loss to a strong Cardinal squad.
The Lady Bulldogs led, 17-10, after the first quarter but the Cardinal girls rallied several times to take a small lead, the last coming with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
A pair of baskets and free throw from Kelsey Maxwell put Gallatin up to stay. Caragan Baker added a bucket and free throw to give the Lady Bulldogs a 36-29 cushion early in the fourth period. Addison Burns upped the ante with a field goal but North Andrew would twice close the gap to two possessions down the stretch.
Baker, Karley Salmon and Claire Hemry combined to hit 7 of 10 free throws in the final four minutes to preserve the GHS victory.
Salmon led Gallatin with 23 points, including a 5-for-11 night behind the 3-point arc. Maxwell finished with 10 points and Baker contributed 9. Hemry dished out a team-high 5 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.
\Gallatin’s boys fell behind early, 19-11, and couldn’t keep up with the Cardinals, who returned key players from last season’s Class 1 state semifinal squad.
Tristen Gibson paced the Bulldogs with 13 points. Landon Corwin added 10 and Aidan Adkison tossed in 8 for Gallatin.
Gallatin teams will open Grand River Conference East Division play next Tuesday at home against Putnam County.
