Betty Irene Manville, our beloved mother, passed peacefully at home in Gilman City, on Nov. 1, 2018, at age 91.

Betty was born Dec. 20, 1926, to Swedish immigrant parents, John and Ingeborg Bergstrand, in Dysart, Iowa.

Betty graduated in 1944 from Vinton High School.

Betty accepted a job with the Farm Bureau and moved to Bethany where she met and married Gale Manville on Sept. 18, 1949. Betty and Gale spent their life farming north of Gilman City.

Betty dedicated her life to raising her family and working on the farm. She gave selflessly of her time to her community through the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross. She was a member of Women of Agriculture and the Gilman City Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star for many years.

Betty was an avid gardener and loved being outside with her flowers and raising vegetables.

Betty had many interests such as sewing, entertaining her family with a song, enjoying the crops, livestock and raising baby calves.

Known for her apple pies, Betty was an amazing cook and baker.

Betty was both wise and compassionate. She saw only the goodness and potential in people, with no judgment, just joy.  As a woman of great faith, and the heart of the Manville family, she lived her life devoted to the Lord, whom she loved greatly.  Her tireless devotion to her faith served as an example to all that knew her.

Betty will be dearly missed by her family and those who adored, cherished and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale Manville; sons, David Manville and Douglas Manville; brothers, Johnny Bergstrand and Leonard Bergstrand; and her sister, Marjorie Kelly.

Betty is survived by her children, Glenda Manville (Gary), Harrisonville, Jamie Oram (Ed), Gilman City, Jana Manville, Four Seasons, Kelly Folgate (Michael), Ridgeway, John Manville, Gilman City; grandchildren, Heath Oram (Lindsay), Trenton, Jonathan Oram (Samantha), Gilman City, Ross Oram (Kathleen), Gilman City, Isabel Manville; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery, Gilman City.
