North Daviess Elementary students continued their new reading incentive last Friday, Oct. 19. The DEAR program, or Drop Everything and Read, had a Halloween theme for the students in grades kindergarten through sixth. Students came to school in orange and black, Halloween t-shirts, pajamas, and even Halloween theme socks. Throughout the day, teachers would have DEAR times for students to collectively find a spot in the room and enjoy reading. The cafeteria staff joined in the theme, and promoting reading, with Halloween decorated cupcake treats. Teachers at North Daviess are enthused and encouraged by the students excitement involved with the reading to expand the students’ skills. Prizes for DEAR participants were drawn to conclude the fun day that promotes educational reading of all kinds. A “thankful” reading event for Nov. 9 DEAR is already in the planning stage.
