Senior Addison Burns was selected as one of 12 national finalists for the competition in the agriscience fair. In order to qualify for the competition members had to conduct a scientific research project pertaining to the agriculture and food science industries and present their findings to a panel of judges with a display and a report, and be selected as the state winner at their state agriscience fair. Addison’s project deals with growth factors and inhibitors in plants. She will present her project during the convention and will be in competition for winning nationals in her division. She will compete on Oct. 24 and learn preliminary results on Oct. 25 during a luncheon.
Jacob Wilson will be on stage and in the spotlight as a member of the National FFA Band. Wilson, a senior and the son of Jason and Abbey Wilson, was selected to play trumpet in the band. The National FFA Band will perform several times during the national convention and expo. Wilson will join fellow band members in Indianapolis for rehearsals three days before the convention and expo begins.
Macie McNeely and Bethany Bailey will be performing in the National FFA Chorus. McNeely, a junior, is the daughter of Wayne and Amy McNeely. Bailey, a senior, is the daughter of Rob and Devonna Bailey. Both girls submitted audition tapes and were selected for alto and soprano parts. They were selected from applicants nationwide and will be given an opportunity to audition for solos on Sunday, October 21. The National FFA Chorus will perform several times during the national convention and expo, and at the rodeo on Thursday, adding excitement and motivation to the sessions through their music.
Ten chapter members will be attending the convention, career show, and agricultural tours throughout the week. All members will be attending the Garth Brooks concert Wednesday evening!
On Saturday four local members, Kaitlyn Bird, Jarod Rains, Declan Schweizer, and Dalton Swalley, will be awarded their American FFA Degrees.
Band and choir members, as well as all of the convention, can be viewed on RFD-TV throughout the week.
