As the fall weather has reached our community in the last week, so has the Fall Family Fun Night at North Daviess School. Families found fall reading and math activities to match the weather on Sept. 26 at the school gym.
Halloween bingo, counting leaves for a wreath, or estimating the number of steps to place the marshmallow on the witch’s nose were just a few of the interactive activities held during Title I Program Night. An early childhood activities and information table was available for those not in school.
School age students through sixth grade, along with their parent or guardian, also enjoyed a free meal, highlighted by measuring, following directions for the perfect s’more.
Drawings were held throughout the educational festivities. Pumpkins, books, and water bottles were just a few of the items that those in attendance were able to win.
Principal Kelly Hightree reported that they had over 50 in attendance for the evening. She went on to say that this was a great showing for the school and community in their commitment to encourage the additional educational resources that the Title I Program offers. Title 1 coordinator Meredith Doty stated that a big “Thank You” goes out to the grade school teachers and staff members for all of the effort and enthusiasm shown for the event.
Second Harvest apples were also available free to those in attendance to aid in the relief efforts that no child go hungry in the community.
North Daviess plans to keep the initiative going for parents and students to encourage reading and math after school hours.
