Douglas Robert Harper, 64, Hamilton, passed away Sept. 8, 2018, in Cameron. Doug lived in Hamilton most of his life and in Columbia for a short time.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1954, in Kansas City to Robert and Geraldine Hedgpeth Harper. He was a 1972 graduate of Penney High School, Hamilton, and went on to college at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Doug retired from the U.S. Post Office in Hamilton. He was an avid sports fan and coached softball and basketball for many years. He also loved announcing high school basketball games. Doug was very active in helping run golf tournaments in the area as well as playing in them.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his son, Heath, and his wife Julie of Chillicothe; step-grandson, Austin Busse and his wife, Madison, Chillicothe; and step-great-granddaughter, Bristol.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Hamilton United Methodist Church, with interment in Rosehill Cemetery, Breckenridge. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at the Hamilton United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Friends and family are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team shirt to Doug’s services.
Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses, the Penney High School Athletic Department, or the Doug Harper Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements are by Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton.
