Three vehicles were involved in an accident that injured seven people, one seriously. On Highway 33 one mile south of Maysville. According to the highway patrol, the crash occurred as Derek Schroeder, 23, Maysville, and Floyd Goucher, 77, Winston, were both southbound on Highway 33. A third vehicle, driven by Denise Segundo, 31, Cameron, was northbound. About one mile south of Maysville, Mr. Goucher slowed to make a left turn into a private drive. Mr. Schroeder’s vehicle struck his vehicle in the rear. After initial impact, Mr. Schroeder’s vehicle then struck Ms. Segundo’s vehicle.
Mr. Goucher was taken by DeKalb/Clinton Ambulance to Mosaic Life Care with serious injuries. Mr. Schroeder received minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene. Ms. Segundo and four passengers in her vehicle all received minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Cameron Regional Medical Center. The passengers were two children, Ethan Segundo, 10, and Kevin Segundo, 13, Alvin Stewart, 37, Cameron, and an infant, Sophia Stewart.
Mr. Schroder’s 2011 Jeep Patriot; Mr. Goucher’s 2009 Kia Rio; and Ms. Segundo’s 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser were all totaled.
The accident was investigated by Cpl. J.M. Cross, assisted by DeKalb County.
