County Clerk Ronetta Burton notified the commission that a petition asking to put the question of whether Daviess County should have a full-time prosecutor on the ballot was filed late Monday afternoon, and added to late Tuesday afternoon but did not reach the required number of signatures. The deadline to have the required 381 signatures certified was 5 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2018. The petition will not appear on the November ballot.

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, stated his crew will be working on Jump Road in Jamesport Township again this week. The commission discussed equipment rates for soft match projects with James. The county clerk will locate MoDOT rates to compare with the FEMA rates discussed today. The issue was continued until next week.

Bills and abatements were approved. Minutes from the last meeting were approved.

Ronetta Burton updated the commission on progress with the new phones and IT security issues. Windstream has notified us that parts are ordered and they will be completing their part soon.

Sheriff Ben Becerra updated commissioners on the ATF drug operation recently held in the county.

The commission approved the design of the new business cards.

Roy Hazzard, Monroe Township, met with the commission regarding rock issues in Monroe Township.

Assessor Sally Black presented documents regarding the determination of use for a building in Gallatin. The commission had a discussion and decided to leave this decision in the hands of the assessor.

The commission continues to work on updating the county personnel manual. The issue was continued to next week.

Charges against David A. Rupell of Clarksdale were filed in Daviess County on Aug. 29 for misdemeanors of sexual misconduct first degree and violation of order of protection. The charges are a change of venue from DeKalb County.

Jacen Robert Stotts, 21, Gilman City, and Alissa Faye Eddy, 20, Gallatin, were married Aug. 31, 2018, by Judge Daren Adkins.

Assessor’s Office

Representatives from the assessor’s office will be in the field starting Sept. 10, reviewing and picking up new construction. By state statute, the assessor must obtain current property photos. Staff members from the assessor’s office will be on properties to obtain these photos and will leave business cards so that property owners will know that the assessor has been on the property.
