The Coffey home of Lindsey Terry and Nick Stevens caught fire early last Tuesday, Aug. 21, leaving only the burned out shell, and displacing the seven members of the family.
Lindsey and Nick are engaged to be married and their family consists of five children from earlier marriages. The children range in age from five to 15 and all attend school at North Daviess in Jameson.
“We lost everything,” said Lindsey.
The house is located inside the city limits of Coffey near the post office.
The fire started around 4 a.m. and the cause was apparently electrical, starting in the attic. Pattonsburg, Bethany and Coffey Fire Departments responded.
“We weren’t at home at the time,” Lindsey says. “We were lucky at that one.”
The family had been having exterminator work done at the house and was staying at a hotel in Bethany.
Nick is the manager at the One Stop in Bethany and Lindsey works at Hy-Vee. They are looking at buying a home in Bethany to be closer to their work.
They have received donations in the way of clothing, but could also use furniture and household. If you would like to help the family, call Lindsey Terry at 660-868-2375 or Nic Stevens at 660-868-2315. You can also just drop donations off at the Winston Pit Stop.
“We’ve had some excellent donations of clothing and food and blankets and things like that, from a lot of really nice people,” Lindsey says.
