Janet Ann Diaz, 75, of Gallatin, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in Gallatin.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Presbyterian World Mission in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born Aug. 6, 1943, in Hannibal, Janet was the daughter of the late Wesley Baker Horn and Lula Belle Crockett Horn. She was a summa cum laude graduate of Elmhurst College in Illinois where received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She lived in Gallatin the last 13 years, moving from Chicago, where she worked at Ryerson Steel Company for 30 years before retiring.
She attended Gallatin Presbyterian Church and was dedicated to the Lord her entire life. She taught GED classes and gave back to her community through donating. Her favorite bird was the Cardinal which is where she got her nickname “Birdie”.
Survivors include three children: Bonnie Jean Shelton and Jennifer Colquhoun both of California, and Daniel Diaz of Gallatin; eight grandchildren: Salina and Wyatt Shelton, Jessica Schlitter, Jenna Kragel, Joe Schlitter, Sydney and Casey Saldivar, and Christopher Diaz who was raised in Janet’s home; one great-granddaughter, Adeline Kragel; two sisters, Margie McCoy of Texas and Maybelle Willis of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
