Barbara E. Macy, 88, Gallatin, passed away Aug. 24, 2018, at the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Visitation is one hour prior to the service where friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be at Centenary Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab or Active Aging Resource Center in Gallatin in care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
Barbara was born Aug. 14, 1930, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Helen Margaret (Matthews) Minnick in Lock Springs. She was a 1948 graduate of the Lock Springs High School, and was united in marriage to Perry Macy Nov. 24, 1948, in Excelsior Springs. The couple made their home on the family farm. To this union their son Gregory was born. Barbara was a housewife and a devoted mother; caring for her family was always a priority, and she was always there in any capacity that was needed.
After Greg was grown she went back to school at Hillyard Technical Nursing School in St. Joseph. She attended two years and received her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate in 1972. She also attended Trenton Nursing School for one year. Her compassion for people and dedication to detail made nursing a perfect occupation for her. Barbara was employed at the Daviess County Care Center, Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, The Village Nursing Care facility in Cameron, and St. Joseph mental institution #2. She dedicated many years to a profession she truly loved.
Barbara was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church in Gallatin where she enjoyed the fellowship she shared with her church family. In the early years she was a member of the Splawn Ridge Ladies Club and later the Gallatin Red Hatters Club.
Barbara was a social person who loved to visit and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She loved her pets and enjoyed all kinds of wildlife; she had a soft spot for her furry friends. Barbara also had a green thumb and spent many hours tending her flowers and vegetables.
Her family was her pride and joy and she always looked forward to their visits. Barbara was a loving mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to serving others, her warm smile, sense of humor and gift of conversation will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Perry, brother Louis Lee Minnick, sister, Margaret Ann Minnick, sister-in-law, Madeline Minnick and nephew Dennis Minnick.
Barbara is survived by her son Gregory and wife Barbara of Gallatin, grandchildren, Leslie (Albert) Shaw, Julie Ann (Kevin Renfro) Macy, both of Columbia, Rebecca Wayne of Union, John David Macy of Columbia, great-grandchildren, Dakoda and Chyler Wayne, nephews, Howard Minnick, Tim and John Rutledge and Jim Macy, nieces Patsy Garbet, Janet McMullin and Deborah Rutledge.
