Tim Caldwell spoke with the Winston Village Board of Trustees about the water situation within the village at their meeting held Aug. 8.
The village clerk is to look into new ways to possibly supply Winston with water. Village board members brainstormed ideas, from Winston getting its own water tower, to possibly being supplied by Lake Viking, to considering whether Cameron could possibly be the water supplier.
In other business, the clerk explained to the board the state delayed the tax rate paperwork and a new meeting must be scheduled for two weeks out in order to set the rates for 2018. She proposed a meeting on Aug. 20 at 5:30 p.m.; the board agreed to the date and time.
The board approved the income and expense report and the year-to-date report.
The utilities clerk distributed a new list of delinquent customers. The clerk reported two move-ins and two move-outs.
Melvin McFee reported on sewer maintenance. The aerator pump for the lagoon quit working and has already been replaced. He explained the details of the pump and the expenses associated with the replacement. Muskrats chewed through the cord that was holding the pump in place. The cost of the new pump was $2,847.40 for labor and parts. The pump had not been replaced for 10 years and was due for a new one. Mr. McFee stated everything was working properly now.
Quentin Hunt, ordinance enforcement, told the board of three homes in violation of village ordinances; the clerk is to send out letters to each resident to resolve the matter.
The village clerk presented the board with the paperwork for exemptions and to renew the liquor license for the local businesses within the village. The board reviewed each item and signed.
The clerk explained to the board the quarterly taxes had been filed last month.
The clerk asked the board if she could replace the printer that quit working a few weeks prior. The board agreed to have the clerk to spend no more than $150 on a new printer. She will be reimbursed during the next meeting.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sept. 4.
