Discussion was held regarding Annie Gibson’s request to make the prosecutor position full-time. Annie met with the commission and was informed that the commission, at this time, would not put the issue on the November ballot. However, Ms. Gibson is free to pursue the option of securing petition signatures to put the proposition on the ballot.

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, stated his crew will be working this week in Benton Township. They will also be working on Bridge 430001.0 in Jamesport Township.

Rick Salisbury and Dick Carpenter, Harrison Township, met with the commission to discuss brush and road issues on 323rd Street.

Stan Huffman, Monroe Township, met with the commission to discuss an issue on Unity Avenue.

Melvin McFee and Don Pittsenbarger, Jefferson Township, met with the commission regarding CART rock and a clarification of the 2018 CART bid.

Wayne Uthe made a motion to appoint Jim Ruse as interim presiding commissioner. Mr. Ruse and the county received notification from the governor’s office that he was officially appointed Daviess County Presiding Commissioner on Aug. 13, 2018.  Mr. Ruse will be sworn in as soon as he receives his official appointment certificate from the Secretary of State.

David Michael, Grand River Township, met with the commission regarding an issue in Jamesport Township with Lilac Avenue.

Bills and abatements were approved.  Minutes from the last meeting were approved.

Ronetta Burton, county clerk, advised the commission on progress with the phone project. She made contact with several people from Windstream this past week and the county has been assured work will progress quickly now. Mr. Schraeder also advised the commission by phone that he is making progress on the refund from KS Communication in the form of a settlement offer.

Pam Howard, circuit clerk, presented the commission with a letter clarifying her employee’s status regarding County Employees Retirement Fund (CERF) retirement.

Pam McNeel, collector-treasurer, updated the commission on a CD that was renewed this week, and helped explain how the unclaimed funds account is handled.

Discussion was held regarding continuing the burn ban in Daviess County due to some areas receiving rain this week. The Commission decided to NOT lift the burn ban at this time, but will wait to see if we receive more rain. The issue was continued to next week.

Ronetta Burton presented the 2018-2019 Midwest Public Risk Summary of Coverage to be signed by the commission.

Sheriff Ben Becerra met with the commission to update them on recent damage to a deputy’s vehicle caused by a collision with an Amish horse and buggy.

Jon Dwiggins, Howe & Company, met with the commission regarding ongoing bridge projects. BRO 31(36) bridge is nearing completion. Final inspection should be done next week. BRO 31(37) is complete. Both of these bridges are in Jamesport Township. Mr. Dwiggins also discussed MoDOT grant opportunities and Soft Match projects.

The commission continues to work on updating the county personnel manual. The issue was continued to next week.
