For the second year in a row, mild temperatures greeted Gallatin R-5 athletes preparing for opening contests in football, softball and golf.

Coach Patrick Treece reported 30 players out for football, who will see early action this Friday during a four-team jamboree at Mid-Buchanan High School. West Platte and Plattsburg will also participate in the controlled scrimmages. The Bulldogs open their season on the road at North Platte on Friday, Aug. 24.

Softball Coach Courtney Ray and her 20 charges are eager for their season opener at the Albany Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 25, but first they will participate in a jamboree this Friday at Milan, along with Princeton and Scotland County.

The GHS girls’ golf season opens Monday, Aug. 27, with the Maryville Tournament at Mozingo Golf Course. Coach Cindy Boles is leading 11 golfers through early practices.
