Sometime after 8:45 a.m., Hill allegedly committed burglary at an unlocked residence in  Winston, taking multiple forms of medication and assorted medical equipment without the homeowner’s consent.

Then at approximately 11:09 a.m., Daviess County 911 received a call from a Jamesport homeowner reporting that someone unknown was in the residence. The homeowner had observed a silver GMC Yukon parked in the garage and had removed its keys. The homeowner then observed the intruder retrieve another set of keys from the back of the vehicle to drive rapidly away. The homeowner followed the subject in his own truck.

Law officers immediately responded. Sgt. Larry Adams of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office passed the suspect’s SUV near the intersection of Route O and Highway 6 while en route to Jamesport. Sgt. Adams turned his patrol vehicle around with his emergency equipment activated and, while in pursuit,  observed the male driver throwing bags and other objects out the window of the GMC Yukon. There were multiple vehicles on Highway 6 at the time.

At approximately 12:42 p.m. the suspect’s vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Ash Street and Highway 6 within the city limits of Gallatin. Daviess County Sgt. Robert Mazur and Highway Patrolman Jon Lynch participated in the felony stop along with Sgt. Adams.

As Mr. Hill was handcuffed and searched, a plastic bag containing white crystal substance, which subsequently tested positive for methamphetamine, was discovered. Officers also found a screwdriver in Hill’s pants pocket.

Hill was placed under arrest. A camouflage-colored shotgun could be seen in the passenger side of the suspect’s vehicle. A marijuana pipe and frozen meat were also observed. The vehicle was impounded in the Sheriff’s storage building until a search warrant was obtained to complete a thorough search of the vehicle.

At about 8 p.m. the sheriff’s office received a call from another individual stating his 2006 GMC Sierra pickup had been parked near the burglarized Jamesport residence. The owner of this pickup stated his vehicle registration paperwork was stolen.

With a search warrant secured for investigation of the impounded GMC Yukon, law officers seized the following for evidence:

  • one .12 gauge pump action shotgun, valued at $200
  • one .12 gauge single shot shotgun, valued at $100
  • one .22 caliber rifle, valued at $50
  • one cooler, valued at $50
  • one drill, valued at $75
  • assorted clothing and purses, valued at $50

In addition, the following items were thrown out of the GMC Yukon while officers were in pursuit of Mr. Hill, located by private citizens and turned over to law enforcement:

  • one router kit, valued at $250
  • one reciprocating saw, valued at $250
  • one work flashlight, valued at $50

The allegations and felony charges against Mr. Hill are based on statements of probable cause recorded by Sgt. Larry Adams of the sheriff’s department. During the ensuing investigation, law officers here discovered that Mr. Hill has multiple felony convictions from the State of Minnesota.
