Amy Schaefer from WSKF Architects out of Kansas City presented a rendition of the walkway between the elementary and middle school buildings at the July 19 meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education. Discussion of details regarding hand rail, fencing, window design, lighting, gates, logos and time-line were all addressed during the meeting.
“Final details are currently being implemented before the bid process,” said Gallatin Superintendent Dr. Copple. “Safety and security is a top priority at Gallatin R-5, and we want to make sure this project is completed with attention to detail.”
Superintendent Dr. Bryan Copple reported to the board the new staff members for 2018-2019: Justin Collins, middle school principal; Vicki Corwin, bookkeeper; Dawn Creason, cook; April Fenimore, fourth grade teacher; Penny Gardner, special education; Jack Malo, band teacher; Samantha Parman, sixth grade teacher; Kelsey Peterson, third grade teacher; Ryan Rosenbaum, special education; Robin Rozell-Estenbaum, special education teacher; Nicole Thogmartin, elementary principal; and Carolynn Williams, special education aide.
Shelby Dale was hired for a cook position for 2018-19.
Circuit Judge Brent Elliott discussed issues that have occurred in the 43rd Circuit Division in regards to the juvenile system and different types of security suggestions for additional building safety for the district.
The tax rate hearing was set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, with regular board meeting to follow.
The following 2018-2019 handbooks with revisions were approved: CDSE Student Handbook, CDSE Staff Handbook, High School Student Handbook, Gallatin Middle School Handbook and High School and Middle School Athlete/Extracurricular Handbook.
Vicki Corwin was approved to have online permission for statement views, print-outs and access view with the accounts from BTC Bank.
The board entered closed session for discussion of personnel.
The above are the unapproved minutes of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education held July 19, with five members present: Tim Bradford, Pam Critten, Trent Dowell, Jeffrey Donovan and Brice Terry. Bill Irby and Amy Heldenbrand were absent. Dr. Copple and Board Secretary Corwin were in attendance. Guests were Martin Sweatman, Larry Adams and Robert Mazur from the Daviess County Sheriff Department, Circuit Judge Brent Elliott, and Amy Schaefer from WSKF Architects.
