The USA Junior Men’s Softball team evened its record at 2-2 on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over Guatemala and in doing so secured a spot in the playoff round of the Junior Men’s World Softball Championship being held in Prince Albert, Canada.
Winston graduate Craig Lewis, son of Eric and Deanna Lewis, has played multiple positions for USA so far, including pitcher, third base and designated hitter. Playing third base in a 10-3 loss to #2 seeded Canada, Lewis had one hit and scored a run. He pitched four innings of relief during an 11-1 USA loss to #1 ranked New Zealand.
The #6 ranked USA squad bounced back with an 11-1 win on Monday over #17 Hong Kong. Lewis served as DH during Tuesday’s 3-0 team victory over Guatemala.
Team USA takes on #7 Czech Republic on Thursday.
