County Commission
Tony Figg, Green Hills Communications, met with the commission regarding the county information technology (IT) infrastructure and security issues.
Mary Ann Teel, representing the prosecutor’s office, met with the commission regarding IT issues their office is experiencing. County Clerk Ronetta Burton also discussed IT issues her office is experiencing.
David Hansen, Spectral Networks, met with the commission regarding IT issues and updates on the phone system.
Sally Black, assessor, met with the commission regarding ongoing upgrades to her office equipment. The Commission approved changes to her counters. She also discussed a proposed GIS pictometry project to update parcels in the county. Sally also discussed a need for more maintenance agreement hours due to IT issues in her office. She stated she had received several Board of Equalization (BOE) calls, but had not received any requests for an appointment yet.
Ronetta Burton updated the commission on the ongoing phone upgrade project. The county is still waiting on Windstream to finish their part. Ms. Burton also stated she had received some BOE calls, but has not had any requests for an appointment yet. BOE requests need to be filed with the county clerk by 4:30 p.m. July 9, 2018. The Board of Equalization will meet at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 16 in the county court.
The courthouse was closed Wednesday, July 4, for the holiday. The commission will meet on Tuesday, July 3 next week.
James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission and stated his crew will be working in Washington Township re-decking a bridge this week. They will also be working on replacing rip rap around tubes in Jefferson Township.
The commission continues to work on updating the personnel manual. The issue was continued to next week.
The commission received bid information on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) opportunity that may be available to the county for bridge replacement. David Cox will consult with commissioners from Grundy County that have already worked with this program to find out more details.
The commission received documents this week asking them to opt in to a Federal Land Funds “Payment in Lieu of Taxes” class action. Discussion was held, however, the issue was tabled until next week for lack of information.
David Roll, Emergency Management Director, met with the commission to let them know he will be out of state for a few days. Deputy Robert Mazur will be on call for emergencies while David is away.
Randy Sims signed progress contracts on Bridges BRO031(36) and BRO031(37).
Ronetta Burton advised the commission that Daviess County had been approved by John Deere Financial for a credit account at Orscheln stores.
David Cox spoke by phone with Julie at Weiland Hauling, regarding CART rock spreading in Washington Township.
The commissioners attended a “Florida Beach Theme” retirement reception for Randy and Tracy Sims in the courthouse lobby in the afternoon. Several people stopped by to wish them well and enjoyed refreshments.
Bills and abatements were approved.

Associate Division
Alex David Shelton was charged June 27 with endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk, first degree, first offense, no sexual conduct, class C felony. Shelton was originally charged in December 2016 with abuse or neglect of a child, serious emotional or physical injury, no sexual contact, class B felony, and a jury trial had been set. The original B felony charge was dismissed and replaced with the C felony.
Assessor’s Office
Property owners who wish to make an appeal on the valuation of their property must make an appointment with the Board of Equalization by July 9. The Board of Equalization will convene on July 16.
