Memorial graveside services and inurnment with military rites will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 28, in Foster Cemetery, New Hampton, under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany. Billy Lee Thornton, 87, Weston, formerly of Pattonsburg, died Friday, June 22, 2018, at a North Kansas City, MO, hospice house.

He was born May 8, 1931, in Allendale, the son of Clayton W. and Reba B. (DeHart) Thornton.

On Dec. 9, 1972, he married Alma Lucille Morgan in Berthoud, CO.  She survives of the home.

Billy served in the U.S. Army and retired from the National Guard in 1999. He was a bricklayer and was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local #5.

Billy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He also enjoyed playing cards, was avid gardener and could not pass up a garage sale or auction.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and a step-son, Harry Thornton.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lucille; children, Joyce (Mike) Newman, Platte City, Barbara Thornton, Savannah, Susan (Dennis) Arn, Savannah, and Steve (Neva) Thornton; step-daughter, Becky (Bart) Braa, Weston; step-son, Roy (Susan) Loder, state of Washington; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
