WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that helps women, infants and young children up to five years of age eat well and stay healthy by providing nutrition education, breastfeeding education and support, health screening and referrals, and supplemental foods.
WIC encourages and provides every participant or caregiver to participate in nutrition and breastfeeding education.
The Registered Dietician (RD) at the Daviess County Health Department, Ryann Rosier, helps participants in achieving a positive life style change by setting nutrition and health goals. The R D, along with the Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, Caitlyn Roberts and Angela Wayne, promote breastfeeding as the optimal infant feeding choice. The Breastfeeding Peer Councilor gives education prior to delivery, and gives follow–up support after delivery, and can also issue electric breast pumps.
WIC participants receive a food package that promotes healthy choices, a food prescription to meet you or your child’s nutritional needs, and a supplement to a complete balanced diet consistent with dietary guidelines for Americans.
The food package provides foods low in fat, sugar, salt, and cholesterol and high in fiber, a larger assortment of foods for exclusively breastfeeding mothers, plus cultural food choices.
Eligibility for the Missouri WIC supplemental food program is based on income as well as a nutrition or health reason determined by a health assessment. Income is equal to or less than 185% of the poverty level. A pregnant mother is count
ed as a family of two.
Income is the gross amount, which is the amount before anything is taken out of your pay check. Income is any money coming into the household. Some examples are child support, SSI and unemployment.
New income guidelines are listed below.

Proof of income and residency must be in the last 30 days and you must have these items with you at certification. If you receive Missouri Health Net, please bring your cards with you.
