William M. (Bill) Dorney, 81, Bethany, died May 16 at Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany.

Funeral services for William Dorney were held May 21 at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Bethany. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. John’s Cemetery near Gilman City.

William was born Sept. 27, 1936, the son of William T. and Lillian (Kroschen) Dorney near Gilman City.

He graduated from Gilman City High School and attended the U.S. Trade School at St. Benedicts College in Atchison, KS, where he studied diesel mechanics.

Bill enlisted in the Army and served his country for two years. He was a mechanic working on military tanks.  After being discharged in 1962, Bill came back home and worked on the family farm north of Gilman City.

Bill was united in marriage to Delores (Scott) Hillyard in 1986.  The couple made their home in Bethany, later moving to the farm north of Bethany. Bill and Delores were over the road truck drivers for many years. In the later years he did grain hauling for area farmers.

Bill was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Gilman City and the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish in Bethany.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret; niece, Maria; and brother-in-law, Raymond Ramirez.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Delores of the home; sister, Barbara Ramirez of Topeka, KS; brother, Robert Dorney and wife Karen of Solana Beach, CA; step-children, Brad Hillyard and wife Linda, and Mark Hillyard and wife Carol, both of Bethany; daughter, Lori Hillyard and Mark of Kansas City.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Hospital in care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
