The Daviess County Health Department celebrated Public Health Week April 1-7. National Public Health Week is celebrated every year the first week of April. The Daviess County Board of Directors voted to give back to county residents for all their support by offering free labs to county residents and discounted labs to non-residents again this year.

“We had a fantastic turnout this year,” said Administrator Cheryl Alexander.

The health department completed 127 labs on Monday and 133 labs on Tuesday.

The health department also offered a blood pressure booth manned by board members Shelly Sims, RN, and Mary Beth Pittsenbarger, RN.

The health department partnered with resource booths from Active Aging Resource Center, Access II, Second Harvest, Daviess County Nursing and Rehab and Northwest Missouri Area on Aging.

“Thank you all very much for volunteering your time. Our community benefits greatly from these resources,” said Administrator Alexander.

The health department continued to offer more discounts on Friday in celebration of public health week by offering to pay $25 of stroke detection screening for those in Daviess County, with 57 participants.

Because this year’s public health week theme is “Changing Our Future Together,” the whole month of April the health department will be doing a GPS scavenger hunt for those wishing to get out in the beautiful spring weather and participate. Visit www.daviesshealthonline.com for more information.

“We would not have been able to complete this health fair without our volunteers and resource booths, so we send a big thank you to Doug Nichols, Gary Alexander, Mary Beth Pittsenbarger, Shelly Sims, Deanna Lewis, Jessica Adkins, Deb Ramey, Amber Griffin and Micky Bates,” said Administrator Alexander. “A special thanks to Superior Auto Wash and Gallatin Publishing Company for letting us park in their areas and to Casey’s General Store for the donated food. And of course a huge thanks to Quest Diagnostics, Dr. Larry Dickinson, medical director, and Stroke Detection Plus. See you next year!”
